This is Redemeption Church's Statement of Faith

If you are unfamiliar with what that means, it is simply a statement of the things we believe, teach and practice, along with supporting Bible verses (The verses are linked to an online Bible so you can read them more quickly). When someone is making a decision to join a church, they should always examine the statement of faith, to make sure the church is founded on the essential truths of Christianity, and that their structure and activity are Biblically based.

It is important to point out however, that a statement of faith alone does not cause a church to be walking in truth of Jesus Christ. Therefore, we present this statement of faith as our doctrinal position, in the hope that above all, our practice reflects the life and love of Jesus Christ.


WE BELIEVE in all the fundamental doctrines of orthodox evangelical Christianity (The Deity of Christ, Salvation By Grace, The Resurrection Of Christ, The Gospel, Monotheism (the belief in one God), Jesus Is The Only Way To Salvation, Jesus’ Virgin Birth, The Doctrine Of The Trinity).


WE BELIEVE the only true basis of Christian fellowship is Christ’s (agape) love, and the demonstration of unity in the essential doctrines of the faith (see #1) [John 13:35, John 17:11]. To demonstrate Christ’s love also means that we show grace to our brothers and sisters in Christ who hold different views on aspects of the faith considered to be non-essentials [Ephesians 4:1, Titus 3:9].


WE BELIEVE worship of God should be spirit-led, both in preparation, and participation. Therefore, although we have a consistent and methodical approach to our times of corporate worship, we remain flexible and yielded to the leading of the Holy Spirit to direct us [John 4:23, John 16:13].


WE BELIEVE worship of God is to be done in spirit and in truth [John 4:23]. Therefore, in our gatherings we place great emphasis upon a) the teaching of the Word of God that He might instruct us how He should be worshipped, and how we should live our lives in obedience to Him [2 Timothy 3:16-17, 2 Timothy 4:1-3, Titus 2:1], and b) responding to God with a willing and obedient heart, through prayer, praise and song [Psalm 95:1-7, Psalm 150:1-6, Acts 2:42, Ephesians 5:19].


WE BELIEVE in the inerrancy of Scripture, that the Bible, Old and New Testaments is the inspired, infallible Word of God [2 Timothy 3:16-17, Hebrews 4:12, Hebrews 10:7].


WE BELIEVE that God is eternally existent in three separate persons: The Father, The Son and The Holy Spirit (The Trinity) [Matthew 3:16-17, Matthew 28:19].


WE BELIEVE that God the Father is the transcendent, and yet personal sovereign Creator of all things, having created the earth and the heavens in unity with the Son, and the Holy Spirit [Genesis 1:2, John 1:1-3, John 10:30, Colossians 1:15-17].


WE BELIEVE that after Jesus ascended into heaven, the Holy Spirit came upon the believers in Jerusalem, enabling them to fulfil His command to preach the Gospel to the entire world [Acts 1:8].This is an obligation shared by all believers today known as the Great Commission [Matthew 28:18-20].


WE BELIEVE that all people are by nature separated from God [Romans 5:12-21] and responsible for their own sin [Romans 3:9-25], but that salvation, redemption, and forgiveness are freely offered to all by the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ [John 3:16, Romans 5:8, Romans 10:9-10, Titus 2:11-14]. God initiates the work of salvation in a person’s life [1 John 4:19, Philippians 1:6, Hebrews 12:2] by sending the Holy Spirit to convict that person of sin [John 16:7-11], resulting in godly sorrow [2 Corinthians 7:8-9]. Genuine godly sorrow then leads that person to repentance (a change of mind, leading to a change in direction away from wilful sin, towards a life of obedience to and dependence upon God) [Acts 2:38, Acts 3:19, Romans 10:9-10, 2 Corinthians 7:8-9, 1 John 1:9]. As that person then turns to God by faith, believing in Jesus Christ as Saviour and Lord, and trusting Him alone for salvation, they are immediately born again and sealed by the Holy Spirit [Ephesians 1:13-14]. At that point they receive forgiveness of their sins, and are adopted and justified as a child of God, destined to spend eternity with the Lord [John 3:16, John 10:28-29, , 1 John 3:1, 1 John 5:11-13]. The Holy Spirit then comes to dwell in that person upon conversion, enabling them to have power over sin, and live in obedience to God’s Word, as He sanctifies them (helps them to become more and more like Christ) [John 14:26,Acts 1:8, Galatians 5:16-17].


WE BELIEVE in the gifts of the Holy Spirit mentioned in the Scriptures, and that they are valid for today if they are exercised within the Scriptural guidelines [1 Corinthians 14]. We believe that the Holy Spirit desires to draw attention to Christ, not to Himself [John 16:14]. We as believers are to covet the best gifts, seeking to exercise them in His love that the whole Body of Christ might be edified [1 Corinthians 12:4-7]. We believe that Biblical love is more important than any spiritual gift, and without this love the exercise of spiritual gifts is worthless [1 Corinthians 12:31, 1 Corinthians 13:1-3].


WE BELIEVE that the leadership structure of the church should be in accordance with the Biblical qualifications for leadership detailed in 1 Timothy & Titus [1 Timothy 3:1-13, Titus 1:5-9], and that a man is not qualified for church leadership unless he is leading his own home in the ways of the Lord [1 Timothy 3:4]. We depend on the Holy Spirit to lead through imperfect men of godly character, rather than looking to worldly business principles for leadership [Zechariah 4:6, 1 Corinthians 1:26-31].


WE BELIEVE that the weight of Scripture points towards a pre-millennial view of the second-coming of Christ [Genesis 12:1-3, 2 Samuel 7:10-17, Revelation 20:1-7]. We believe in the rapture of the church, but are not dogmatic as to the timing of this event [1 Thessalonians 4:15-18]. We believe that the second coming of Christ with His saints to rule on earth will be personal, pre-millennial, and visible [Matthew 24:27-30, Revelation 1:7]. We do not accept the amillennial view held by some believers, as we believe Scripture points to a future hope for Israel (not that Jewish people can be saved apart from Christ, but that God has a future plan for Israel as a nation) [Genesis 12:1-3, 2 Samuel 7:10-17]  Romans 11]. We do not separate ourselves from brothers or sisters in Christ who hold differing views on the end times, as we consider this to be a non-essential to the Christian faith. We believe that a believer’s view of the end times should motivate them to holy living, including heartfelt worship, committed service, diligent study of God's Word, regular fellowship, participation in the Lord’s supper, adult baptism by immersion, and evangelism [Matthew 28:18-20, Luke 12:40-43, Philippian 4:5, 1 Thessalonians 5:16-23, Hebrews 10:25].


WE BELIEVE in the sufficiency of Scripture, and aim to teach the Word of God in such a way that its message can be applied to all aspects of an individual's life [2 Timothy 3:16-17, 2 Timothy 4:1-3]. We believe that the application of God’s Word will lead to maturity in Christ, and the fruits of the Holy Spirit [John 8:31-32, Galatians 5:22-23, Ephesians 4:11-16].


IN OUR GATHERINGS, we seek to exalt and glorify God, through worship in song, prayer, and the teaching of the Word of God [Romans 11:36, 1 Corinthians 6:19-20]. Our services are age-integrated as we believe this is the common pattern of Scripture [Deuteronomy 31:12-13, Joshua 8:34-35, Ephesians 6:1-3]. Our teaching is primarily expositional, with occasional topical teaching as the need arises [Nehemiah 8:1-8, Acts 20:27, 2 Timothy 4:2].
