As we begin chapter 17 of 1 Samuel next Sunday, we come to a very familiar Bible story that almost everyone is familiar with. But so often, we miss the point of what this chapter is about. In this chapter, we are not the main point; the giant is not the main point; but God and His glory is the main point. How does God prepare to glorify Himself in this chapter? He allows for a “giant” obstacle to present itself which cannot be overcome by mere human capability. In v1-27 (next week’s passage), we’re going to see that God leads David (a man after His own heart) directly to the situation – David did not have to invent a situation whereby God would be glorified, he only had to make himself available.
