Jesus has just finished taking an extended period of time, to instruct His disciples
on the subject of eschatology – explaining to them what will take place leading up to His
Second Coming. Whereas, in this week’s passage, we see that there are still things which
must be accomplished as part of His first coming. In particular, the most important task of
Jesus’ first coming still needed to be completed – which is none other, than His sacrificial,
atoning death of the cross. In this study, we will be looking at five of the active participants
involved, leading up to the death of Jesus: The Father (v1), The Foes (v1-2), The Friends
(v3-9), The False Disciple (v10-11), and The Followers (v12-16).
