As Jesus approaches the time of His arrest and crucifixion, the primary focus of His ministry is no longer the crowds, but on his twelve disciples. After all, they are the men whom He would initially entrust to His mission, to take the Gospel to the ends of the earth. There are a number of important lessons that Jesus feels to teach His disciples in preparation for their task ahead. Several studies back, the focus of the lesson was the importance of waking by faith. Then in our previous study, the lesson focused on the importance of walking in humility. Whereas this coming Sunday, the lesson will be focused on the importance of dealing seriously with sin. In one of the longest passages of Scripture about hell, we are going to see that it’s important to deal seriously with sin for the sake of others (v42), for the sake of ourselves (v43-48), and for the sake of our Gospel witness (v49-50).
