This this week’s passage, we come to the account of when Jesus comes to the rescue of His disciples as they are struggling on their boat in a storm. Immediately prior to this, Jesus had carved out some alone time for one-on-one communion with the Father, following the miraculous feeding of the 5,000. In the previous storm, Jesus had been in the boat with them, whereas this time, Jesus was nowhere to be seen. However, although they couldn’t see Jesus, Jesus could see them and came to their rescue at just the right time. Jesus demonstrates His miraculous power once again by walking on the water in order to rescue them, while welcoming Peter’s enthusiasm to join him, even though he falters along the way. This is yet another experience whereby Jesus reveals the truth about Himself, while preparing His disciples for their mission He was commissioning them to.
