In the chapters leading up to chapter 11, the writer to the Hebrews has been encouraging his readers to continue strong in Jesus, by demonstrating to them that Jesus is far greater in both His Person and His work. Then in chapter 10, verses 26-39, the writer communicated a very strong warning to not shrink back spiritually, knowing that “the just shall live by faith” (Hebrews 10:38).
Now as we come to chapter 11, we come to what is known as “the faith hall of fame”. What the writer to the Hebrews demonstrates in chapter 11 is what faith looked like in the lives of many prominent Old Testament people. One of the things that becomes very evidence as we study through chapter 11, is that throughout human history, the only way that people have been able to truly please God is by responding to Him in faith. Of course, the aim of the writer of Hebrews throughout this chapter is to encourage us to truly live by faith.
