As we continue in chapter 6 of the book of Hebrews, the author draws our attention to the eternal hope we have in Christ.
Our salvation has been accomplished once and for all by Christ, and we can rest in this. However, those who truly embrace and experience this rest are far from passive in their relationship with God. Genuine salvation is accompanied by such things as labouring in the Lord's work, and serving others. This requires much diligence, faith and patience, but it all leads to the blessing of inheriting God's promises. How incredible it is to really know that God is for us, not against us - that He is faithful, even when we are faithless - and that there is nothing He has called us to do that He won't enable us to carry out.
These are the truths that fill us with hope, and empower us to follow Christ whole-heartedly.
