Although this Sunday is be Christmas Day, we are still gathering together for worship & fellowship (an earlier, shorter gathering 9:30-10:30am). We will, however, be continuing on with our study of Hebrews which we started last Sunday, focusing on the theme that the author introduced in Hebrews 1:4, of Jesus being superior to the angels.
The author proves from Scripture that Jesus is superior to the angels because He is the Son of God (Hebrews 1:5), because the angels worship & serve Jesus as their God (Hebrews 1:6-7), because the Father calls Jesus God and Lord (Hebrews 1:8-12), and because the work of Jesus is complete, while the angels work continually (Hebrews 1:13-14). Now although the big issue for us today probably isn’t whether or not Jesus is superior to the angels, the application for us is whether we have allowed lesser things to become bigger than Jesus in our thinking. The Christmas season can have a way of eclipsing what is really important, so it’s appropriate for us to adjust our thoughts as we consider “Jesus Exalted”!
