Leading up to this week’s passage, Paul has been encouraging the Philippians to pursue spiritual maturity, while conducting their lives on earth as citizens of heaven. But as Paul penned these wonderful spiritual truths, he was only too aware of the everyday realities that Christians experience which have a way of getting them off course.
In this week’s passage, Paul speaks to three specific areas which have a tendency to derail believers from progressing forward together - interpersonal conflicts (Philippians 4:1-5), anxieties (Philippians 4:6-7), and misdirected thinking (Philippians 4:8). In each area, the solution has to do with a change of thinking on the part of the Christian - this is what’s needed if we are to “stay the course” that God has for us.
Have a read through the passage and discuss with your family the challenges that we face in each of these three areas, along with what difference a change of thinking can make when we apply the instruction that Paul gives in this passage.
