Several weeks ago, we began a new book study of 1 John. The main theme of 1 John has to do with an incredibly vital topic that we often tend to overlook or neglect, and that’s our relationship with God. In the first section of this letter (1 John 1:1-2:14), the Apostle John is dealing with the conditions of our relationship with God. We’ve seen already that three essential aspects of having active fellowship with God are “walking in the light”, “walking in obedience” & “walking in love”.
This week, we are going to be considering the importance of “Walking in Spiritual Growth”. When John makes reference to “children, young men & fathers” in this passage, he’s referring to one’s stage, rather than one’s age. It’s a reminder to us that real fellowship with God will result in real spiritual growth in our lives. In the week ahead, read the passage, and discuss with your family why physical maturity doesn’t necessarily equate to spiritual maturity, along with the importance progressing in our spiritually, and how this happens in the life of a believer.
