All through the first letter to the Corinthians Paul has been dealing with some hefty and lofty topics. He wrote about divisions in the church, arrogance, wisdom and sufficiency in Christ, church discipline, sexual purity, marriage, the role of man and woman, freedom in Christ, the Lord's Supper, spiritual gifts and the resurrection. That's quite list!
In contrast the last portion of the letter looks like a jumbled list of closing thoughts and minutia. If you look at the chapter and wonder what in the world you could possibly take from it, you wouldn't be the first. Here, Paul moves from discussing principles to some practical outworking of those principals. Next week, we will take a look at the relevance for the Corinthians and what examples we can take for ourselves.
