Mark 8:22-33

In this section of chapter 8, we see Jesus' encounter with the blind man. This man had no hope of seeing, apart from the divine intervention of Christ. Christ is merciful towards the man, and heals him from his blindness. Following this, we see Jesus asking the disciples, who they believe Him to be. Many of the disciples had their spiritual eyes closed, but Peter had his spiritual eyes open, declaring Jesus to be the Christ. In both of these accounts, what we see very clearly, is that closed eyes cannot be opened, apart from God's intervening work. We also see that we are capable of hindering our spiritual sight at any moment, when we stop looking at things from God's perspective, as Peter did, when he tried to stop Jesus going to the cross. Lord, open our eyes, that we would see Jesus!
