1 Peter 2:1-2

In the original, the Apostle Peter has one command for us in this passage: "to desire the pure milk of the word" (1 Peter 2:2). Notice that this call isn't simply to read the word, but to desire it. And not just any desire. Notice the term used, what it is like, and to what it is directed! To help us restore and maintain that craving for God's precious word, Peter surrounds that command with four principles centred in the words: "therefore" (1 Peter 2:1; cf.1 Peter 1:3-12); "laying aside all..." (1 Peter 2:1); "so that you may grow thereby..." (1 Peter 2:2); "if indeed you have tasted that the Lord is gracious” (1 Peter 2:3). Ask yourself and ponder how each of these will remove the hindrances to our craving and fuel our redeemed heart's natural desire for God's word. This is a passage you'll want to know well for your own soul but also in counselling others.
